Nothing the lab publishes exists without working hardware and clean recordings. As lab assistant you are the person who keeps the research vehicle, the sensors and the computing infrastructure ready for research and teaching — and who makes a recording campaign run smoothly from calibration to the organised dataset.
Your tasks
- Operate, maintain and extend the research vehicle and the instrumented bicycle: LiDAR, cameras, GNSS/IMU, on-board computers and power supply.
- Calibrate the sensors, check the recordings and keep the lab’s datasets organised and documented.
- Plan and support recording campaigns on test sites and in Munich traffic.
- Administer the lab’s GPU servers, storage and network together with the university IT.
- Support the practical parts of teaching, e.g. the robot cars of the Autonomous Driving master course.
- Look after procurement, inventory, safety instructions and the coordination of student assistants in the lab.
Your profile
- A completed degree (Bachelor or Diplom FH) in electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science or a comparable field, or an equivalent qualification with relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with electronics, sensors or vehicles, and confidence working with Linux.
- Good knowledge of Python or C++; experience with ROS 2 and networking is a plus.
- A structured, reliable way of working and enjoyment of supporting other people’s research.
- Driving licence class B; good German and English.
